on beliefs and purpose

I ran into Alvins blog. and found something worth thinking.

"Wednesday, October 19, 2005

If you are not seeking the Lord, the Devil is seeking you...

"
great words.

however i have a totally different appreciation for it, not in the theological/religious sense, rather in a philosophical realization.

u c, i strongly believe that people need to believe in some kind of higher power, or purpose in it's life. the most common form is religion, where people believe there's god/gods up there somewhere, and that gives them their purpose of life. the other form may well be in science or some other cult, or being involved in patriotism, or just money-worship. losing all sense of purpose generally lead u to one or all of the two conclusions: madness (due to constant searching of beliefs and purpose), and suicide (in some cases however that stems in the belief of an afterlife, because u can 'start over').

Being brought up as a chinese-buddhist-with-strong-cultural-heritage-and-taoism-confuism-influence person, plus being a malaysian (hence the brushes with islam, hinduism, chirtianity) and also being in a modern world (free-thinker-ism and Darwinsim) and a man-of-science (thanks to my engineering experiences and national geography readings), its hard to immerse oneself into any form of believe. (pretty sad huh?)

u might think: well i maybe can grab a hold on science as a belief. NO i don't. remember the previous post, even science may only be a relative truth, believing totally in science almost certainly will drive u into the 'mad-obsessed-scientist-that-believe-there's-no-bloody-ghost' category.

...to be continued...(need to catch up on work)
